Position: Staff Researcher

Brief Description

Earth Policy Institute is looking for a hard-working experienced researcher to help analyze a broad range of environmental issues from an interdisciplinary perspective. A successful candidate will have a background in the natural sciences or related discipline, knowledge of and interest in global environmental issues, excellent research ability, and dedication to building an environmentally sustainable economy. Strong writing and analytical skills, computer proficiency, and an exemplary academic record are also important qualifications. Previous coursework in biology, ecology, chemistry, and economics is preferred.

This is a full time position based in Washington, DC. Starting salary is commensurate with experience, excellent benefits.

Additional Staff Researcher Details

Staff researcher responsibilities include:

  1. identifying and tracking environmental trends,
  2. following scientific literature,
  3. collecting, analyzing, and organizing data,
  4. reviewing and fact-checking manuscripts,
  5. writing articles and website content relating to the building of an environmentally sustainable economy, and
  6. contributing to institutional outreach efforts.

The successful candidate will possess the following characteristics:

  1. background and interest in environmental issues,
  2. at minimum a college degree preferably in the sciences, graduate studies or work experience will be considered,
  3. computer proficiency (MS Office, especially MS Excel),
  4. strong research skills (computer and library),
  5. acute attention to detail,
  6. ability to analyze issues across a variety of disciplines,
  7. solid writing ability,
  8. willingness to learn new concepts and skills,
  9. demonstrated talent in communicating complex issues in an easily understandable manner, and
  10. capacity to work independently with minimal supervision and also as a productive member of a small team.
